Galaxy Evolution and Star Formation Histories: the Role of Uv Observations and Modeling
نویسنده
چکیده
The UV region is the optimal spectral range for probing the star formation. Based on our extensive spectrophotometric modeling, we show that an UV{optical color such as (1550-V) is uniquely valuable for identifying starburst and post{starburst galaxies and study their star formation properties. We also discuss the necessity of reliable observed UV templates of nearby galaxies for studies of the distant universe and for comparison with model{based K corrections.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملOn the Determination of Star Formation Rates in Evolving Galaxy Populations
The redshift dependence of the luminosity density in certain wavebands (e.g. UV and Hα) can be used to infer the history of star formation in the populations of galaxies producing this luminosity. This history is a useful datum in studies of galaxy evolution. It is therefore important to understand the errors that attend the inference of star formation rate densities from luminosity densities. ...
متن کاملModeling stellar populations in cluster galaxies
In this review I highlight the role played by spectrophotometric models in the study of galaxy evolution in distant clusters. I summarize the main achievements of the modeling of k+a spectra, the derivation of the star formation rate in emission line galaxies and the stellar ages of red cluster galaxies. The current knowledge of the dependence of the star formation histories on the galaxy morph...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
